Archeological Technician

As an Archeological Technician, you will:
Provides support to the Northeast Region Archeology Program by evaluating current condition data on archeological sites registered in CRIS (formerly ASMIS) and identify and record new sites in CRIS. Tasks include providing support to a team of NPS Archeologists conducting archeological baseline inventory and evaluation among parks in the Northeast Region, gathering current geographic information concerning the extent and context of archeological sites, as well as the extent and context of threats and / or disturbances to archeological sites. Included in the work is archeological fieldwork including survey excavation to identify and evaluate new sites or confirm and reassess legacy site information as currently represented in the CRIS database, photographic documentation of sites, assistance in entering new site information into CRIS, update archeological information in CRIS for existing sites, process and analyze collections gathered as a result of Regional baseline inventory work, and contribute to cultural resources GIS project development. Contributes significantly to updating and adding new information to the existing NER CRIS inventory. Gathering current geographic information concerning the extent and context of archaeological sites as well as the extent and context of threats and / or disturbances to archaeological sites. Included in the work is photographic documentation of sites, assistance in entering current backlog of sites into CRIS, update archaeological information in CRIS, and contribute to GIS project development. Conducting assessments of the CRIS inventory data completeness, quality, and spatial accuracy and development of maps and strategies for updating individual Park inventories. On site condition assessments including GPS mapping. Archival research. Strategizing with regional CRIS coordinator to develop a protocol for updating and increasing spatial accuracy of CRIS records. Contribution to or creation of a basic Park GIS including CRIS information To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
conducting archaeological field surveys; performing searches for archaeological features and artifacts and recording survey results through field notes, site maps, or photographs; and/or conducting independent excavation and testing of archaeological sites. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education directly related to the work of an Archeology Technician. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take graduate semester hours (or equivalent) and divide by 18 semester hours. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
