Archeologist

As an Archeologist GS-0193-11, you will:
Serve as an archeologist for the Northeast Region Archeology Program (NRAP) and reports to the Regional Archeologist. Be responsible for ensuring complete, accurate, and reliable records are added to, maintained, and updated in the ASMIS database. Assists parks in developing scopes of work and IGCE, CESU partnerships, training park staff, or conducting in-person site assessments. Coordinates all ASMIS-related activities and services in the Northeast Region and maintains communication and coordination with the WASO service-wide ASMIS coordinator. Advises the Regional Archeologist and park management on archeological resources while assisting developing new tools and methods for more effectively conducting park archeological inventories, evaluations, and condition assessments for future planning and resource management purposes. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Basic Requirement for the Archeologist:
A. Education - Degree:
Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
(1) history of archeology; (2) archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; (3) regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; (4) theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques; (5) archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work; AND six semester hours of related course work in:
(1) geography, geology, or cultural geography; (2) history, historiography, or historical archeology; (3) environmental studies; (4) scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or (5) surveying; AND archeological field school. OR B. Education - Related Curriculum:
Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements listed in A above (including archeological field school). OR C. Combination of Education and
Experience:
College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. OR D.
Experience:
Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as, but not limited to:
ASMIS (Archeological Sites Management Information Systems) related activities including conducting condition assessments, recording archeological resources, and providing ASMIS training and guidance and/or designing, implementing and completing multi-phased archeological projects involving documentary, archival and collections research; field investigations (both survey and excavation), laboratory analysis of recovered data, and professional report writing, and/or serving as an advisor to the Regional Archeologist and management on archeological resources to include:
identifying, evaluating, and monitoring archeological resources, identifying threats and making recommendations. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least least three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.; or Ph.D.; or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a field directly related this position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
